A War Worth Fighting
Recently I wrote an article entitled, A Republican Need. I received an encouraging comment telling me that I sent out a “call to arms.” I was moved and proud.
Now, just one day later I write with the same passion and a greater resolve. I’m calling all to arms!
McCain and I once discussed Internet Taxation and how harmful it would be to our society. While many will champion abortion and gay rights - this is my issue: A Free Internet. Other issues rank high, however I know I was called -as were you- to protect the Internet.
U.S. Senator Mike Enz, R-Wyoming, has introduced a bill that increases regulation, government involvement, and depletes the Marketplace of Ideas.
Here’s his idiotic statement:
“Simply put, if Congress continues to allow remote sales taxes to go uncollected and electronic commerce continues to grow as predicted, other taxes, such as income or property taxes, will have to be increased to offset the lost revenue to state and local governments, I want to avoid that.”
This now marks the second Republican I would rather replace with a Democrat. Senator Chuck Hagel is the other one if there was ever a question.
Go here to email the Senator and let him know that we will not stand for this. Bloggers, Ebay Powersellers, Emailing Grandmothers - let’s stand.
This my friends is an attack on a previlege we enjoy. The Internet, without massive legislation, has produced a hearty sector in the global economy. The Internet has given people of Republics and Fascist-controlled governments a voice again. The Internet is our hope.
Senator Enzi:
I will contribute in a fund to end your legislation and your national political representation if you continue on this path. I stand firmly against this illogical piece of legislation and will not sit idly by while my joy is stripped by the bureaucratic pig known as Washington.

Hey Ali, first off a word of advice from one blogger to another. When posting topics like this one, it is a good idea to include links to maybe the bill itself or to an article about the bill. That way it makes it clearer to the reader exactly what the bill is about.
I don’t know exactly what this bill includes but I am usually always against anything that causes an increase in government. That being said however, as a proponent of Alan Keyes and his idea of replacing the income tax with a national sales tax I am not completely sure how I stand on this issue.
I do make a substantial amount of purchases online however, but I do understand the burden it puts on tax revenues at the State and Local level.
That being said, as I mentioned earlier I don’t like anything that causes an increase in the already far too large government bureaucracy. So I will have to definitely look into this one.

I would encourage everyone to look at the bill if they are so enticed. There’s a cool site called Google - check it out!
I don’t plan on posting bills that are up under committee revising - that just ruins the debate like on the immigration deal.
Thanks for the advice, however I’m doing fine and I do (as always) value your viewpoint Joe.

I agree Ali. Internet taxation would be a disaster. That bill is doomed. I’m not even worried about it. The majority of dems will follow Bill Clinton’s opinion on this issue, and they will ultimately decide to reject the bill. I am curious though, what were they planning on using the money for?

I wholeheartedly agree and will also fight this legislation tooth and nail. I also agree with a flat national sales tax on non-neccessities and the elimination or serious reduction of the IRS. The capital gains tax should also be lowered greatly or eliminated. With all of the global competition we need to help American businesses flourish to better make them able to compete and not by funding them, just let them keep more of the money they earn. Our Dollar is sliding and we must effect change very soon, or it will be too late to save this great contry of ours.
